Preparations and Thanksgiving after the Mass

PRAYER BEFORE THE HOLY MASS
Eternal Father, I unite myself with the intentions and affections of our Lady of Sorrows on Calvary, and I offer Thee the Sacrifice which Thy beloved Son Jesus made of Himself on the Cross and which He now renews on this holy altar: To adore Thee and give Thee the honor which is due to Thee, confessing Thy supreme dominion over all things, and the absolute dependence of everything upon Thee, who art our one and last End.  To thank Thee for innumerable benefits received.  To appease Thy justice, aroused against us by so many sins, and to make satisfaction for them. To implore grace and mercy for myself, for all afflicted and sorrowing, for poor sinners, for all the world, and for the holy souls in Purgatory. Amen

PRAYER OF ST. AMBROSE
Lord Jesus Christ who art so kind, no merits of my own invite me to the pleasures of thy banquet table. I  am a  sinner  and  I come in  fear  and  trembling  encouraged  only  by  thy mercy and goodness. My body and soul are defiled with many a sinful deed. My tongue and heart have run their course without restraint. God  of gracious  kindness,  whilst  I  tremble  before  thy Majesty, wretch  that I  am,  trapped in my own insufficiency,  I still  look  to thee  the source of mercy. I hasten to thee to be healed and to seek refuge under thy protection.  I yearn  to  have  thee  as  my  Savior for  I  cannot stand before thee as my  judge. Lord, I show thee my wounds and uncover my shame before thee. My many great sins are known to me and they make me afraid. But I hope in thy mercy which knows no limits. Turn towards me thy merciful gaze, Lord Jesus Christ, eternal King, God and man, crucified for mankind. Hear my cry of hope in thee. Pity one so full of sin and wretchedness, for thou art the inexhaustible fountain of forgiveness.
Hail, victim who saves,  offered  for  me  and  for  all men  on  the gallows of  the cross. Hail, noble blood beyond price, flowing from the wounds of my crucified Lord Jesus Christ and washing away the sins of the world. Remember, Lord, thy creation which thou hast redeemed with thy blood. I am sorry that I have sinned and I want to make up for what I have done.  Take away  from  me  then,  Father  of mercy,  all  my badness  and  sin, so  that clean  in  body  and  soul  I  may be  fit  to appreciate  this holy of holies. Grant also, that  this offering of  thy body and blood, which in my unworthiness I  am  to  receive,  may  forgive  my  sins,  cleanse  me utterly of my crimes and dispel sinful thoughts. May it then revive my  holy  desires,  give  me  the  saving  strength  to  do  what  thou desirest, and  protect me securely against the traps of my enemies. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
Almighty eternal God, thou seest me approach the sacrament of thine only begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ. I am like a sick man that comes to the healer who gives life. Unclean, I seek out the clear spring of mercy.  Blind, I come to the light whose brightness is eternal.  I am a beggar and I bring my needs before the Lord of heaven and earth. I ask  thee  from  the fullness  of  thy boundless generosity to cure my sickness,  to wash away my filth,  to  give  light  to my  blindness, to enrich my poverty and clothe my nakedness.
Do all this so that I may receive the bread of angels, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, with all the reverence and humility, the contrite devotion, the pure faith, the awareness and purpose that the salvation of my soul demands. I beg  thee,  grant  that  I  may receive not only the outward signs of  the  Lord's  body  and  blood  but  may  also  share  in  its  true reality and power. All-gentle God, grant that my reception of the body of our Lord Jesus Christ taken from the Virgin Mary, may make me part of his Mystical Body and one of his members. Most loving Father, thy Son whom I  now intend  to  receive  is hidden from me in this mortal life; grant that I may gaze upon the revelation of his face  for all eternity: who liveth and reigneth with thee in  the unity of  the Holy Spirit, God for  ever. Amen

PROCEDE TO THE ORDINARY OF THE MASS:

THANKSGIVING PRAYERS AFTER MASS

PRAYER BEFORE A CRUCIFIX
Plenary Indulgence is granted to those who will recite this prayer in front of a Crucifix in all Fridays of Lent, provided that all the conditions to gain Plenary Indulgence are met.

 En Ego, O bone et dulcissime Jesu, ante conspectum tuum genibus me provolvo, ac maximo animi ardore te oro atque obtestor ut   meum in cor vividos fidei, spei, et charitatis sensus, atque veram peccatorum meorum pœnitentiam,  eaque emendandi firmissimam voluntatem velis imprimere: dum mag-no animi affectu, et dolore  tua quinque Vulnera mecum ipse considero, ac mente contemplor, illud  præoculis habens, quod  jam in ore ponebat tuo David propheta de te, O  bone JESU: “Foderunt manus meas et pedes meos; dinumeraverunt omnia ossa mea.” Amen.
 MY good and dearest Jesus, lo, I kneel before thee, beseeching and praying thee with all  the ardour of my soul to engrave deep and  vivid  impressions  of  faith,  hope,  and charity  upon my heart, with  true repentance for my sins,  and a very firm resolve to make amends. Meanwhile I ponder over thy five wounds, dwelling upon them with deep compassion and grief, and recalling the words that  the  Prophet David  long ago put into  thy mouth, good Jesus, concerrung thyself: “They have pierced my hands and my feet: they have counted all my bones!” Amen.

THANKSGIVING AFTER COMMUNION

My good Jesus, I pray Thee to bless me; keep me in Thy love; grant me the grace of final perseverance. Help me to become a saint. Safeguarded by Thee in soul and body, may I never swerve from the right road, but surely reach Thy kingdom, where - not in dim mysteries, as in this dark world of ours, but - face to face we shall look upon Thee. There wilt Thou satisfy me with Thyself and fill me with such sweetness that I shall neither hunger nor thrist forevermore: Who with God the Father and the Holy Ghost livest and reignest world without end. Amen.
May the heart of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament be praised, abhorred, and loved with greatful affection, at every moment, in all the tabernacles of the world, even until the end of time. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. THOMAS AQUINAS
I thank thee holy Lord, all-powerful Father, eternal God; thou hast graciously  allowed me,  a  sinner,  unfit  even  to  be  thy servant  to eat my  fill of  the precious body and blood of  thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ.  This thou  hast  done not because I deserve  it in  any way,  but  only  because  thy  loving mercy  has  been  good enough to treat me as if  I were worthy. And I pray that this holy Communion may not be an indictment which demands my punishment but rather a sure plea for salvation and forgiveness. May it be for me the armour of faith and the shield of good will.
May it rid me of my sins, destroy in me evil desires and lusts, and make me grow in charity, patience, humility, obedience and every other virtue. Let it be a steadfast bulwark against the deceitful trickery of all my enemies, visible and  invisible, and bring perfect  freedom  from all disturbance of body or spirit; let  it be the solid bond with thee,the one true God,  and  the  happy  fulfillment  of all  that  thou dost intend me  to be. And I beg of  thee of  thy gracious kindness to lead me, a  sinner, to that banquet which words cannot describe, where thou with thy Son and Holy Spirit art the  true  light  of thy Saints, their entire fulfillment, their eternal joy,  their perfect  gladness and absolute happiness; through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. BONAVENTURE
Dearest Lord Jesus, pierce and fix the depth and centre of my soul with  thy most sweet  and strengthening love, with  thy sincere and serene,  most  holy  and  apostolic  charity,  that only and always  in love and  longing for  thee my  soul may grow weak and become like wax. May it yearn for thee, be breathless in thy presence, and anxious to be released and belong to thee. Grant that my soul may hunger for  thee,  bread  of angels  and  food  of holy souls,  our own  daily  and more  than  sustaining  bread,  that has  every  sweetness  and  savour  in  it  and  every  delight  of taste.
May my heart hunger always for thee and feed on thee upon whom the angels long to gaze, and may the inmost parts of my soul feel and be filled with  thy  sweetness.  May it always  thirst  for  thee, the source of  life,  the source of wisdom and knowledge, the source of eternal  light,  the stream of pleasure,  the richness of God's own house. May it always desire thee, seek and find thee, stretch out and reach thee, think and speak of  thee, do everything to the praise and glory of thy name, humbly and with right judgement, lovingly  and with pleasure, with ease and affection,  persevering  to  the end: so that thou  mayst  always  be  my  only  hope,  my  whole  trust,  my  riches and pleasure, my gladness and joy, my rest and repose and peace, my sweetness and fragrance, my delight, my food, my shelter and refreshment, my help, my wisdom, my portion and possession and  my  treasure;  and  in  thee  may my mind  and  heart  be  ever rooted and fixed firmly and fast. Amen.

PRAYER OF ST. IGNATIUS OF LOYOLA
Take, O Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, and all my will, whatsoever I have and possess. Thou hast given all these things to me; to thee, O Lord, restore them: all are thine, dispose of them all according to thy will. Give me thy love and thy grace, for this is enough for me.

ANIMA CHRISTI

 ANIMA CHRISTI, sanctifica me.
Corpus CHRISTI, salva me.
Sanguis CHRISTI, inebria me.
Aqua lateris CHRISTI, lava me.
Passio CHRISTI, conforta me.
O bone JESU, exaudi me.
Intra tua vulnera absconde me.
Ne permittas me separari a te.
Ab hoste maligno defende me.
In hora mortis meæ voca me,
Et jube me venire ad te.
Ut cum sanctis tuis laudem te.
In saecula sæculorum. Amen.
 Soul of Christ, be my sanctification;
Body of Christ, be my salvation;
Blood of Christ, inebriate me;
Water of Christ's side, wash out my stains;
Passion of Christ, my comfort be;
O good Jesus, listen  to me;
In thy wounds, hide me,
Never to be parted from  thy side;
Guard me, should  the foe  assail me;
Call me when my life  shall fail me;
Bid me come to thee above,
With thy Saints to sing  thy love,
World without end. Amen.

ACT OF RESIGNATION
O Lord, my God, from this moment do I accept from thy hands, with a quiet and trusting heart, whatsoever death Thou shall choose to send me, with all its pains and griefs. Amen.

ACT OF SELF-OBLATION OF ST. TERESA OF AVILA
Lord, I am Yours, for I was born for you!
Reveal what is it You ask of me.
O Sovereign Lord, of majesty Supreme!
O Wisdom, that existed from all time!
A Bounty, showing pity on me!
God, one sole Being, merciful, sublime!
Behold this basest of created things
As thus, with boldness its love it sings,
And tell me, Lord, what You ask of me!
Behold my heart, which here I bring
And in Your hand as glad entire free-offering.
Lay, together with my body, life, my being,
To You, Redeemer and most gentle Spouse,
In willing holocaust I pledge my vows,
What is there Lord, that I may do for you?

PRAYERS OF THE ANGEL OF FATIMA
My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You! I ask pardon of You for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You.
Most Holy Trinity, I adore Thee! My God, my God, I love Thee in the Most Blessed Sacrament.
Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I offer You the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in all the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended. And, through the infinite merits of His most Sacred Heart, and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of You the conversion of poor sinners.

PRAYERS OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA
Oh my Jesus, I offer this sacrifice for love of Thee, for the conversion of sinners, and in reparation for the sins committed against the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Oh My Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of Hell, lead all souls to Heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER OF OUR LADY OF AKITA
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, truly present in the Holy Eucharist,I consecrate my body and soul to be entirely one with Your Heart, being sacrificed at every instant on all the altars of the world and giving praise to the Father, pleading for the coming of His Kingdom. Please receive this humble offering of myself. Use me as you will for the glory of the Father and the salvation of souls.

Most Holy Mother of God, never let me be separated from Your Divine Son. Please defend and protect me as Your special child. Amen.

STAY WITH ME LORD
(St. Pio of Pietrelcina)
Stay with me, Lord, for it is necessary to have You present so that I do not forget You. You know how easily I abandon You.
Stay with me, Lord, because I am weak and I need Your strength, that I may not fall so often.
Stay with me, Lord, for You are my life, and without You, I am without fervor.
Stay with me, Lord, for You are my light, and without You, I am in darkness.
Stay with me, Lord, to show me Your will.
Stay with me, Lord, so that I hear Your voice and follow You.
Stay with me, Lord, for I desire to love You very much, and always be in Your company.
Stay with me, Lord, if You wish me to be faithful to You.
Stay with me, Lord, for as poor as my soul is, I want it to be a place of consolation for You, a nest of love.
Stay with me, Jesus, for it is getting late and the day is coming to a close, and life passes; death, judgment, eternity approaches. It is necessary to renew my strength, so that I will not stop along the way and for that, I need You.
It is getting late and death approaches, I fear the darkness, the temptations, the dryness, the cross, the sorrows. O how I need You, my Jesus, in this night of exile!
Stay with me tonight, Jesus, in life with all it’s dangers. I need You.
Let me recognize You as Your disciples did at the breaking of the bread, so that the Eucharistic Communion be the Light which disperses the darkness, the force which sustains me, the unique joy of my heart.
Stay with me, Lord, because at the hour of my death, I want to remain united to You, if not by communion, at least by grace and love.
Stay with me, Jesus, I do not ask for divine consolation, because I do not merit it, but the gift of Your Presence, oh yes, I ask this of You!
Stay with me, Lord, for it is You alone I look for, Your Love, Your Grace, Your Will, Your Heart, Your Spirit, because I love You and ask no other reward but to love You more and more.
With a firm love, I will love You with all my heart while on earth and continue to love You perfectly during all eternity.  Amen

ACT OF FAITH
O MY God! I firmly believe that Thou art one God in three divine Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; I believe that the divine Son became man, and died for our sins, and that He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe these and all the truths which the holy Catholic Church teaches, because Thou hast revealed them, Who canst neither deceive nor be deceived.

ACT OF HOPE
O my God, trusting in your promises and because you are faithful, powerful and merciful, I hope, through the merits of Jesus Christ, for the pardon of my sins, final perseverance and the blessed glory of heaven.

ACT OF LOVE
O my God, because you are infinite goodness and worthy of infinite love, I love you with my whole heart above all things, and for love of you I love my fellow-men as myself.

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that you are in the Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I long for you in my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. As though you have already come, I embrace you and unite myself entirely to you; never permit me to be separated from you.

OFFERING OF ALL MASSES IN THE WORLD
I unite myself with every Mass which at this time is being offered throughout the world. I place them in the hands of Mary, the Mediatrix of all graces that she may obtain by this presentation of the Blood of Christ to the Most Holy Trinity, the deliverance of souls from purgatory, relief for the sick and dying, the conversion of infidels and sinners, and the preserve dance of all the faithful.

PRAYER FOR OBTAINING INDULGENCES

My Lord and my God, I humbly beseech Thee, that in consideration of the merits of our Lord Jesus Christ, Thou wilt grant unto me all the indulgences attached to my prayers and works this day. I desire to enter into dispositions necessary to gain these indulgences, that I may satisfy divine justice and assists the souls in purgatory.

ACT OF REPARATION TO THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT
With that most profound respect which divine Faith inspires, O my God and Saviour Jesus Christ, true God and true man, I adore Thee, and with my whole heart I love Thee, hidden in the most august Sacrament of the Altar, in reparation of all the irreverences, profanations, and sacrileges, that I, to my shame, may have until now committed, as also for all those that have been committed against Thee, or that may be ever committed for the time to come. I offer to Thee, therefore, O my God, my humble adoration, not indeed, such as Thou art worthy of, nor such as I owe Thee, but such, at least, as I am capable of offerings; and I wish that I could love Thee with the most perfect love of which rational creatures are capable. In the meantime, I desire to adore Thee now and always, not only for those Catholics who do not adore or love Thee, but also so supply the defect, and for the conversion of all heretics, schismatics, lebertines, atheists, blasphemers, sorcerers, Mahomedans, Jews, and idolaters. Ah yes, my Jesus, mayest Thou be known, adored, and loved by all and may thanks be continually given to Thee in the most holy and august Sacrament! Amen.

PRAYER WHILE VISITING THE MOST BLESSED SACRAMENT
(St. Alphonsus Liguori)

My Lord Jesus Christ, for the love which You bear to men, You remain night and day in this Sacrament full of compassion and of love, awaiting, calling, and welcoming all who come to visit You. I believe that You are present in the Sacrament of the Altar: I adore You from the abyss of my nothingness, and I thank You for all the graces which You have bestowed upon me and in particular for having given me Yourself in this Sacrament, for having given me your holy Mother Mary for my advocate, and for having called me to visit You in this chapel. I now salute Your most loving Heart: and this for three ends: In thanksgiving for this great gift; To make amends to You for all the outrages which You receive in this Sacrament from all Your enemies; I intend by this visit to adore You in all the places on earth in which You are the least revered and the most abandoned.
My Jesus, I love You with all my heart. I grieve for having so many times offended Your infinite goodness. I promise with Your grace never more to offend You in the future.
Now, miserable and unworthy though I be, I consecrate myself to You without reserve;
I give You my entire will, my affections, my desires, and all that I possess. From now on dispose of me and of all that I have as You please. All that I ask of You and desire is Your holy love, final perseverance, and the perfect accomplishment of Your will. I recommend to You the souls in purgatory; but especially those who had the greatest devotion to the most Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. I also recommend to You all poor sinners.
My dear Saviour, I unite all my affections with the affections of Your most loving Heart; and I offer them, thus united, to Your eternal Father, and beseech Him in Your name to vouchsafe, for Your love, to accept them. Amen.

AN ACT OF ADORATION
O Lord Jesus Christ, I have received Thee within myself, and from within the sanctuary of my heart into which Thou hast designed to descend, do Thou give to Almighty Gos, in my name, all the glory that is His due. I unite myself to Thee, O Sacred humanity, who in heaven and in the Holy Eucharist, dost never cease offering the Most Holy Trinity an infinite worship, that which alone is truly worthy of the Three Divine Persons. Through Thee, O Divine Priest, I wish to render glory to the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, even in proportion to the immensity of their Divine Majesty, because I know that by Thee, with Thee and in Thee all honor and glory are given to them. In union, therefore with Thee, I prostrate myself in adoration before God acknowledging His Sovereign dominion over me and over all creatures.*
